About
A little bit about me?
Well, I've been illustrating and painting since about the age of eight, if my memory serves me correct. That's around the time when I can remember drawing a white stallion I saw in a children's book we had at home. From that point, I've been drawing and painting to some degree ever since.
I started out drawing comic strip characters, and from that point I progressed on to doing pencil portraits, to watercolors, to acrylics.
My artistic ability is 100% a gift from God, because I had nothing to do with obtaining it.
I had little to no had formal training to do what I do. In 1986, I saw a commercial on TV to enter the national ‘Draw Me’ contest, which I won a scholarship for a correspondence course to the Art Instructions Schools of Minnesota. From the training I received there, I was introduced to different disciplines in the field of art. Most of my course studies were things that I was already doing. So it took me a little longer to complete the course because I stopped doing the work out of boredom. Nevertheless, I finally completed the course in 1991.
After graduating high school I went to work in corporate America, but continued producing art on the side. I’ve been working as a freelance-artist ever since.
Over the past 33 years I've done many commissioned pieces for the public, and I've done many for myself.
I'm a black artist that don't do solely black art. I think if someone was observing my whole body of work through the years, without knowing who did it, they would probably come to the conclusion that 20 different artists did it. That's something I like - doing work that crosses racial spectrum and with diversity.
Today, I strive to be the best artist I can be and that my work can be a blessing to others.
