Of all the work I've done in my career, this particular piece was my favorite painting. It's called 'NightWatch'. I painted this from a photograph I found in a magazine in 1997. The colors were so dynamic and rich that I took the challenge (challenging myself) to paint it using acrylics, which is not a very friendly medium. Nevertheless, I saw the end product before any paint ever touched the paper - I had to. There's still a part of me that wishes I never sold it.

This painting came about after seeing a giraffe and thought about expanding on the spots pattern to where it would show a giraffe peaking it's head out of spotted curtain. You'll probably notice a theme with my work in this decade - I love animals. Although 19 years old, this is still one of my favorite paintings to this day.

This one was done in 1997, not long after the death of Mother Teresa, then I made prints of it, for purchase, in 1998. One of my favorite pencil illustrations in my portfolio. After so many years, I still have most the prints. Some years ago, I had an art appraiser appraise this piece along with some other works of mine, and he told me that my work was 'not marketable'. That cut.

This is an original acrylic painting done in 1996 of a black woman teasing her hair in an orange dress. In 1997 I posted some of my work online, which included this painting, and I had a co-worker tell me that someone had apparently taken an online image of this piece and used it as their avatar on their website. I really didn't get exercised about it. Looking at the bright side of the matter, at least I had a fan in cyberspace that obviously liked this piece as well.

In my career, I've been hesitant to do pieces representing Jesus, because I didn't want to be in error in any way when dealing with the Lord. So, if I do venture into this arena, I always consult scripture first for accuracy. The Lord describes this scene for us all in Psalm 22.

My approach in doing this particular painting was to paint a color portrait against a jet black background to bring out the subject image. I'm a firm believer in less is more in art.

This is one of my all-time favorite pieces.

I put in a lot into this one from the original concept, which can be seen in the image below, to the finished product which was pretty much done in the stock room of the department store I was working in in 1991.

This is a painting I did showing 6 guys in different poses, and if you did not realize this, 5 of the 6 guys are wearing college school colors (ie - Florida, Georgia, FSU, Miami, & North Carolina).

This was a drawing of Tiger Woods that was done in 1999, and I sold it in 2000, if my memory serves me right. Pencil on paper is my original medium. I wanted to make this piece look as close to a black and white photo as possible, in addition giving the beholder a 3D look as well. This is still one of my all time favorite pencil pieces.

This was completed on New Year's Day in 1993. It was done in pencil and marker and it's 2-1/3' x 4' in a mahogany frame. This was the centerpiece in my first apartment - my slice of peace in a noisy world. It's currently hanging up in the office of my house today.

This is a painting I did in the mid-90's (can't remember the year). It was done using only gold paint on a huge piece of black fabric I bought for the project. Unfortunately, I have no clue as to where it is today.

When I did this piece, my goal was to produce a series of pieces eliminating as much color as possible, but not to the extent that the observer couldn't understand what they were seeing. I actually have over 400 prints of this piece, if interested.

This piece from 1990 was done completely in marker.

I guess there's no way I can 'legitimately' be an 'artist' without dabbling in the abstract at some point in your career (That's just me taking a shot at society's view of what an 'artist' is). Now, I digress. This piece is titled, 'Not Your Average Shadow'. This was done as a result of an idea I had in mind at the time. Something like a 'Jekyl & Hyde' effect per se.

There's a little story behind this particular piece. In August of 1993, I was asked by a local hair stylist to accompany him to the annual Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show in Atlanta with his family, to act as a runway artist for models during the event. It was also an opportunity to display some pieces of mine there as well. There were celebrities everywhere and during one of the days of this show, the hair stylist's wife pulled me away from my post to show me something. Apparently, this particular piece somehow made it into the hands of Toni Braxton who was getting her hair done with a hoard of people around her at the Vidal Sassoon booth and with my large scale portrait of her rolled up in her hands like it was a gift. Toni told me that “she loved it”, which I appreciated and was very nice, but all I was thinking was 'who gave that to you' and 'how am I going to get it back'…. Long story short, I got it back.

I did this drawing in the early 90's, and it had been stored away for years until I ran across it earlier this year while going through some things in my attic. It was arguably my best pencil drawing to date at that time.
